Salt Dough, Baby Hands and Reindeer's!

Hello Mommies and Happy Thursday. Friday is finally here!

So today I am going to share an easy DIY project using Salt Dough with all of you.

Yes Christmas is still a few months away, but I just had to create this cute Christmas decoration using salt dough and a print of Hudson's hand. And why so early you may ask? Because he is growing at a ridiculously fast pace and I want a print of his hand while it is still so tiny.

So here it goes... step by step.

What you will need:

Salt Dough Ingredients:

1 Cup of flour

1 Cup of salt

1/2 Cup of water

Craft Supplies:

Brown craft paint

White craft paint

Red craft paint

String

Paint Brushes

Scissors

Acrylic Gloss Glaze

Sandpaper

Step 1:

In a bowl mix together the flour and salt, then slowly add in water while mixing everything together.

Step 2:

You will soon get a sandy like texture, with your hands knead this into a ball of dough.

Step 3:

Once you have your ball of dough, take a rolling pin and roll out the dough. The thickness is completely up to you.

Step 4:

Once your dough is rolled out, take a bowl and cut out a circle. Once that is done, take your little ones hand and press it into the dough, moulding his hand into it. Carefully prick out a hole on the top with a toothpick. (Remember the hand needs to be upside down) One you have done this, heat the oven on 180 degrees for about 20 minutes. Then place the dough onto wax paper on an oven tray and place this inside the oven to bake.

Timing: This all depends on the thickness of your dough. You will need to just keep an eye on it. Once you notice it going slightly golden brown take it out the oven and allow it to cool down. (Mine baked for about 20 minutes in the oven)

Step 5:

Once it has cooled down, you can start the reindeer's transformation. Carefully paint the hand print in brown, and paint the rest in white, front and back.

Step 6:

Now to add in the smaller details. Using your black paint add the hooves, tail, horns, eye and mouth. And using your red paint add on the reindeer's red nose.

Step 7:

Once your paint has dried, it is time to glaze. Take your glaze and paint it all over your decoration, front and back. And finally take your piece of string to weave through the hole allowing it to hang.

Simple right.... Have fun xxx
